Do Shipping Labels have to be 4 x 6?
4 x 6 inches is the standard shipping label size that most carriers in the US require for domestic and international shipments. While you can use smaller labels like a 2 -5/16 x 4-inch Dymo 30256 label, the post office will still require you to print your stamp and IMpb barcode on separate labels.
Using three different labels for every package you ship will be quite costly in the long run. But if you only print a single 4 x 6 shipping label for each package, you can help lower your shipping costs.
So what about those old POSTNET barcodes you see on smaller packages? Unfortunately, USPS stopped using the POSTNET symbology years ago and replaced it with IMpb barcodes, which occupy a bigger printing space.
However, for small packages and envelopes, you can use USPS labels measuring 4 x 4 inches and 6 x 3 inches for most destinations. But if your parcel is heading to a military or diplomatic facility, you’ll need an 8.5” x 5.5” half sheet shipping label.
